I love it when three of my favorite loves in life come together, baseball, history and politics.  Via Jim Caple at ESPN.com:

YEAH, WELL, THAT’S JUST, LIKE, YOUR OPINION, MAN

The Iowa Caucus Also Is Hurt As Barometer By Not Being Able To Pick The Yankees To Win: The Iowa caucus gets a lot of media attention — hey, you have to fill the 24/7 cable cycle somehow! — but it is about as accurate as the typical preseason prediction from a baseball writer. We’ll see how this year turns out, but in the 13 occasions since 1980 when the Republicans had a contested Iowa caucus (Reagan in 1984, Bush the elder in 1992 and Bush the younger all ran uncontested), the winners went on to win the party’s nomination just eight times. That’s 61.5 percent, or not all that much better than a coin flip. The numbers are even worse for the Democrats, who have had five contested Iowa caucuses since 1980, with only two winners eventually getting the nomination. You’d be about as accurate if you picked the Cardinals to win the World Series every year. …

Jen Wagner and I were on Fox 59 to debate the results of the Indianapolis Mayor’s race between Republican Mayor Greg Ballard and Democratic challenger Melina Kennedy. As a side note, the hissing/buzzing you hear in the first few minutes of the video is a result of me leaving my iPhone in my pocket which caused interference with the lapel mic.

Doing My Pundit Thing

Tomorrow night at 10pm I will be on Fox 59 with Jennifer Wagner and we will be discussing Election Night results. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to put on my pundit cap, but it will be fun to discuss the municipal election results.

Make sure to catch it!

New Derek Webb & Sandra McCracken EP is OUT!

My favorite singer/songwriter, Derek Webb, and his wife, Sandra McCracken, have released a brand new EP called the Tennessee EP or “TN EP”.  It’s a follow up to their 2008 EP entitled “Ampersand”.  I downloaded as soon as I could and, for the most part, it doesn’t disappoint.  It’s seven tracks which include five original songs and two covers (Simon & Garfunkle’s “The Sound of Silence” and Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time”). Believe it or not, the cover of “Time After Time” is pretty good.  ”The Sound of Silence” is a carryover of a side project from Webb called “Democracy” which is series of covers voted on by fans.

All of the songs are, obviously, duets and starts off strong with the song “From You to Me” (also available as a free download on NoiseTrade.com).  Upon release of the “TN EP” they also released a video for “From You To Me”  I know this reads as a pretty lousy review, but it wasn’t really supposed to be a review so much as I just really wanted to mention that the new EP was out.

For a $5 download, it’s definitely worth the price.   Below you’ll find the video for “From You To Me”.

So, Mitch Daniels Isn’t Running for President

This is also apparently the official statement from former Vice President Dick Cheney:

Indiana House Democrats Still Aren’t Showing Up For Work

House Minority Leader Pat Bauer finally showed up at the State House to meet with House Speaker Brian Bosma only to head back to his hide out (aka the Urbana, Illinois Comfort Inn).  No time table is set for the Democrats return.  But this picture pretty much sums it all up.

ICYMI: Indiana House Democrats are a Band on the Run

I debated Chris Worden (of IPOPA fame) again on Fox59’s “Face Off” segment.  This time we debated the legitimacy of the Indiana House Democrats running off to Illinois and skirting their constitutional duties to people of Indiana.
